Why eat halal ?
Halal is what is good and wholesome. It helps purify hearts, and the Prophet ﷺ linked lawful food to the acceptance of supplications.
Allah is Pure and accepts only what is pure
“O people, Allah is Pure and accepts only what is pure.”
He commanded the believers to do what He commanded the Messengers, and He said: “O Messengers! Eat of the good things and do righteous deeds” (Surah 23, al-Mu’minun, verse 51), and also: “O you who believe! Eat of the good things We have provided for you.” (Surah 2, al-Baqara, verse 172)
The Prophet ﷺ then cited the case of the man who has travelled far, dishevelled and dusty, raising his hands to the sky and saying: “‘O Lord, O Lord!’, while his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful, and he has been fed on the unlawful. How could he be answered?”
“The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear. Between the two are doubtful matters that few people can distinguish. Whoever avoids the doubtful matters will have safeguarded his faith and his honour. And whoever falls into them will fall into the unlawful, like a shepherd who grazes his flock around a private pasture and is about to let them enter it. Beware: every king has a private pasture, and Allah’s pasture is His prohibitions.
Truly, in the body there is a piece of flesh which, if it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt; beware, that piece of flesh is the heart.”
